michael_hohner
I've had a tripod in my suitcase several times. No problems at all. The screening personnel have seen almost everything. They know what it is.
SCL
I always carried mine (collapsed) in my carry-on luggage. Once or twice a question, but always allowed.
phyrpowr
Anything that looks like it could be a weapon, I put in my check thru luggage, e.g., tripods, walking stick, tent poles. Why take the chance they'll refuse it when it's too late to do anything about it?
armando_roldan
I would put it in my check-in lugguge unless you only had the one bag. I have carried it on my carry-on before with no issue but if you get a wiseguy at TSA, he can make a issue and then its too late to put on your check in. Las time I flew, they took away my Zippo lighter that I carried on a dozen flights before.
Palouse
Lighters are a real no-no! Even a Nikon user knows that :)
