Floral/Interior Design studio shoot- Lighting?

Hi there,
I wasn't sure if I should post this in beginner forums or here... since I am definitely a beginner with anything other than natural lighting. So forgive me if this should be there.
I'm doing a shoot for my friends this weekend that are starting a floral/interior design for events company. They want some shots of them setting up arrangements, and a lot of the actual setup. We are going to do indoor and outdoor. The apartment is well lit, so I might not need any additional lighting. Is it recommended that I use additional lighting no matter what? I have a 580 exii speedlight flash, but that's it. I was contemplating purchasing an umbrellla and stand since that is the only other thing I have played around with. Then I could rent another flash or a pocket wizard. I'm pretty rusty with that stuff though.. I took a workshop months ago! Would a softbox be a good thing to try in this scenerio? I need to learn this stuff though, so I don't want to shy away from anything.
I know this is a lighting forum- but I'm also not completely sure about what lens to shoot with. I have a Canon 40D with the kit lens (24-90mm) and the 50mm 1.8. I figure the kit lens is the best option.. but I'm open to renting a wide angle lens, which would probably be good right? I know that 50mm is not a good idea for the interior shots, unless I want some close up shots. Although.. some really nice super close up ones would be better with an actual macro lens.. right?
I'm inserting an image of what I would like the interior shots to look like. Any thoughts/tips are appreciated!
