Flickr Now Only Offers HTML Embed

<p>Flickr used to offer an HTML code for posting to Forums. They also offer a BBCode, Yesterday, they switched to only allowing HTML Embed. PNet doesn't allow embedding. Short of actually uploading an image file, are there any other options that will work with PNet?</p>

<p>The embed code contains the direct link to the image. Just cut and paste the part of the embed code that comes after <strong>="</strong> and before the <strong>"</strong> after jpg. That's what I've done here. This is posting directly from flckr.</p>

<p>Flickr TOS require a link-back to the image on flickr - which is what the above post does not provide. The problem is here at Photo.net - since the code that flickr provides shows the image just fine in the preview - but can't be posted because PN issues the following statement:<br>

<p>Looks like Flickr is trying to satisfy user demands to thwart unauthorized copying. You can still bypass those tricks. I did just now to drag-and-drop one of my own photos hosted on Flickr, without logging in to get the easier method.</p>

<p>Yeah, photo.net used to allow link-backs automagically when I'd drag-and-drop from most offsite hosts. That feature vanished a year or so ago. I tried manually embedding the link-back code so smaller versions of photos would appear in the original larger versions back at the host. Too much trouble so I stopped.</p>

<p><a title="Blue Hour" href=" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3807/19142413469_fc218e37f0_z.jpg" alt="Blue Hour" width="640" height="426" /></a><br /> Edit out the "data-flickr-embed="true" data-header="true" data-footer="true"" portion at the beginning and delete the entire "script" section at the end of flickr's embed code, and the link-back is preserved. No need to violate flickr's TOS.</p>

There's no difference though to the one posted above with that section removed - so apparently PN ignores that bit anyway. Believe that portion is supposed to show a frame with flickr and the image title around the image - and maybe also the copyright attribution in the lower right corner of the image.</p>

<p>Remember to click on "update" once when you paste in flickr's embed code - you will then see the image in the preview and can safely click on "confirm".</p>

account to log into, but Google Photos and Dropbox both

allow sharing if you're looking for a Flickr alternative

<p>This is the second thread I've seen this week that gets into highly technical workarounds that less than 1% of the users can understand, much less remember. If the moderators feel compelled to share this type of technical drivel, I suggest that they do it with PMs to those that have the skill sets necessary to understand them. I can't think of any other purportedly consumer oriented website that dispenses 'help' that is of absolutely no use to the majority of the users. I have a feeling that Mark Zukerberg would come chasing his moderators, hatchet in hand, if they responded in this manner. Better that PN devote programming resources to make the site more robust for users who don't have 20 years of coding experience. We are now going on two (or is it three years) since PN announced that a new, more user friendly website was only a couple of months away. I cherish the email I have informing me that I could be a beta tester. I doubt if anyone really believes that there will ever be an enhanced site introduced but it would be nice to receive an honest acknowledgement that this is the case. Instead the secretive cabal of management and moderators diffuses users with pronouncements like: "data-flickr-embed="true" data-header="<br /> "embed; thanksforlistening:sendtobitbucket"<br /> "embed:user:jimwhywonthisguygoawaydowns>"</p>

<p>Jim, I only visit the Site Help Forum when I need help. Thankfully, every time that I've asked a question on this Forum it's been answered promptly and correctly.</p>

<p>Jim, if you think that's irritating check out how "Digital Marketing Strategists" (a new trending job title that requires very little skill) are changing the internet. Those here who give of themselves by offering wizbang coding workarounds are what can be considered as "real internet people" who truly want to help others navigate the internet and have fun doing it at the same time.</p>

<p>I won't be one who will use this link back sharing of images using embedded code but at least I know these people are for real and they mean well.</p>
