Flexible clamps

I occasionally need to have a small item held up in the air before a

background to get good detail of it. I have seen some photographers

that use a device that has a large clamp on the bottom to hold onto a

tabletop and a small clamp on the other end to hold the item with a

flexible tube (I can't think of what else to call it) in between. The

tube can be bent, so it can be placed in almost any position.

I have been looking at my local home store and was able to find the

clamps, but not any type of semi-stiff bendy tube to do what I need.

Does anyone, first of all, know what I am talking about? Secondly,

where would I get the metal bendy stuff?

Thanks!

The first of the two links is a DYI. For a DYI project (not photography), I have boughts the

very clamp at hardware store and I have seen something that look suspiciously like the

bendable material.

I'm not much of a DYI guy so for my photography I use (and love) the Bogen flex and arms

but I'm sure you could hack something similar to link one on the cheap if you're a handy

person.
