Flash sync between Vivitar 283 and T70

I have a question about using a Vivitar 283 flash unit on a Canon

T70. Please correct me if I am wrong but isn't the 283 a manual

flash, how do I ensure that my shutter will sync to the flash?

Should I shoot at 1/125th since my flash normally sync's at 1/90th ?

Will the flash unit sense the correct amount needed and shut it down

as needed depending on the setting for the flash unit?

Thanks,

Gary

Vivitar 283 is an auto flash, not a manual flash. From your question I assume your camera will sync at 1/90 second or slower. So you have to select the shutter speed to anything up to, and including, 1/90 sec. Using the camera in manual mode makes this easier since you also have to select the aperture maually.

With the 283 you set the film speed ISO on the side flash calculator, select one of 4 auto ranges (colors) on the front dial, and set the aperture to what the calculator dial suggests for that color. The flash will then provide automatic flash exposure.

If you want to provide less flash, say for fill flash, use a smaller aperture.

The T70 was my first camera 18 years ago, and I still have it. The sync on that

camera is up to 1 /125, so you can sync your flash at that speed or any speed

slower..ie..1/90..1/60..1/45. Use the camera in manual and select your

apeture as well as your shutter speed, then select the corresponding

aperature on the flash unit. Make sure that you select the same iso for both

the camera & the flash unit as well.
