leicaglow
I came across a really nice Minolta AL for $15! I almost bougjt it, and still can, but noticed last minute that the rangefinder doesnt work. Does anyone know how to repair said machine, or if it is worth doing? The meter works and the shutter speeds look right on. Thanks.

winfried_buechsenschuetz1
You probably have attached the wrong pic.
First, do you see a slighty tinted viewfinder image with a (mostly) yellowish spot in the centre? If not, or if this spot is very weak, the coating of the semi-transparent mirror is faded. Only way to fix this is to replace it with a suitable mirror from a donor camera.
Sometimes the joints of the rangefinder mechanism get stuck. After removal of the viewfinder hood you should see a swiveling arm with a mirror in approx. 45 deg position on the bottom of the viewfinder assembly (there might be an internal cover attached with glue or small screws which you have to remove, too). Check whether this arm moves as you turn the focus ring. If not, apply a droplet of lighter fluid to the joints.
