laurie_m
I just posted a sample of my results from the wedding I was coerced into shooting. They're in a folder marked "Wedding" (of course). I just wanted to thank everyone that offered technical advice and moral support. I also want to thank all you pros for posting your images to give us amateurs an idea of what and how to shoot these events. The help that was offered in this forum saved my butt! I still haven't had a chance to pick up the film shots from the lab. When I do, I'll post a few of those as well. This was a great learning experience, one I don't plan on repeating any time soon. For anyone thinking it would be "cool" to be a wedding photographer, you may want to reconsider. It's hard work! In addition to the wedding day, the prep time and post processing time is more than I ever imagined. Anyone shooting a wedding for less than $3,000 is undercharging! Anyone thinking they can be a guest AND the photographer at a wedding is in for a big surprise (or a big failure). I was there for 10 hours and was lucky to manage a piece of cake (OK...and a few glasses of champagne). Although I didn't manage to catch every moment, I'm satisfied with the results, under the circumstances. I'll have a proof set of about 175 images to offer the bride and groom (nephew). I think they'll be pleased. Thanks again for all the help!

r.m.
They'll be overjoyed. I'd love to see some of the film images when you get them in. Congrats.
kathywilson
They're going to be very pleased, Laurie - seriously. I think you did a fine job! Some of the photos were obviously in really tricky lighting, and you did the best that could be expected under the circumstances without the full Wedding Photographer Kit (tm, pat. pen.) Some of them - particularly the one of the dress - are inspired, and I don't think you would have had so many with easy, natural expressions/postures had you been a stranger. Good call on their part, well done on yours!
ecarter
Laurie - if this is representative of what you're capable of, then congratulations! You're off to a flying start - those samples look great! Well done! The lucky couple should be very pleased.

todd1664878707
Those are fantastic. I love the one of the dress hanging in the window. Most of your flash shots look as though you used some type of diffuser. Did you?

laurie_m
Thank you all for the feedback! Paul, I have no current plans to shoot more weddings. I'm not ruling it out, but also know I got lucky this time. The Groom is my nephew, the Bride and her family were wonderful. Everyone cooperated, including Mother Nature (bright overcast most of the time). In a real life paying wedding job, I'm sure things wouldn't be so easy. Not that this was easy. I worked my tail off. It's just that I'm well aware that despite a few minor glitches, this was easy as weddings go. Todd, I did use a lumiquest softbox on my flash. I did some test shots with and without and preferred the diffused flash. For the shots, the ceilings were fairly high and were wood. I wasn't really able to bounce off of them. So, I used the softbox for the inside shots as well. Early in the day, on some of the detail shots, I was able to take advantage of natural light and didn't have to use flash at all.
