chris_register
Hi, i've been interested in getting started in photography for a while and I came across an old Nikon FM with a 50mm lense for $90. Assuming it works, is this a good place to start? Thanks, chris
david_h._hartman
The Nikon FM is an excellent first camera. Which 50mm lens? If its a 50/1.8 AI thats an excellent lens.
david_h._hartman
The 50/2.0 AI is an excellent lens also.
robert_m_johnson
Great, camera. I used one for years. (a shiny black one) You can't go wrong learning photography with one. (I still have a nice chrome one with a sweet 85mm f2) :-)
mark_peters
An excellent choice and a great deal. I recently bought the same combination for over $300 from KEH camera brokers in "excellent" condition. The FM is surely one of the greatest manual SLR cameras of its era (late 70's, early 80's). As it has only a simple meter arrangement, it will force you to learn the critical relationship among shutter speed, aperture and film speed. Have fun learning about photography with this gem of a camera.

mark_jordan3
Hi Chris, It's simplicity makes it a great first camera. $90 is very reasonable for a body and lens in working condition...wouldn't hurt to have it checked out first though. If there are significant problems with the meter and/or shutter speeds...1) You'll get frustrated quickly 2) Repair costs will negate the great deal
mbuntag
Good beginner camera kit. Good deal to, as long as the camera is in good working conditions. Make sure the lens apertures, and camera shutter speeds, and light meter all work.
