Firmware updates

How is a camera's firmware updated? And is there talk of correcting the

firmware of the D80?

 

While reading Ken Rockwell's D80 User's Guide, I noticed he talked of many

firmware problems...it made me wonder.

Today, the firmware upgrade procedure is to copy the new firmware from Nikon's web site and write it onto your memory card. Then you put the memory card in your camera and copy that into the camera. It is a fairly straight forward procedure.

 

Generally speaking, I would take whatever you read from Ken Rockwell's web site with a small grain of salt. Frequently, Rockwell tries to be the first to "review" a hot new product on any web site; he is in such a rush that he misses critical issues and posts his reviews prematurely. For a more thorough job, try Phil Askey's http://dpreview.com (extremely thorough) or Thom Hogan's http://bythom.com. However, it takes time to do a good job. Hogan's reviews might not appear on a timely fashion.

Like I always tell others ... I *only* go to Ken Rockwell's website when I needed entertainment. Reading his articles with a grain of salt is just to put it mildly.
