Fireworks with a HOLGA

Recommended Posts

Hi...

I'll be shooting some fireworks this weekend. I would like to try

some shots with my HOLGA CFN. If I set it on bulb exposure and mount

the camera on a tripod... how long do you suggest I keep the shutter

open [while using the cloudy aperture setting]???

Since the edges will likely be black I do not see how you would get a very good Holga effect here. Nonetheless with "cloudy" being approx f/8 the rules for any camera would apply, and of course depends on the film speed.

This page has some great tips:

Firworks are very bright, so don't worry about not to get enough exposure. However, to capture fireworks as spectacular as possible, I would suggest get as close as possible (remember Holga has a wide 60mm lens) and open the shutter for the duration of several full firework patterns (about a few seconds). Find some building/people profiles in the foreground will enhance the view.

This one was shot with Rolleiflex @f22, ISO 100. The same principle for Holga. You get the idea.
