Caledonia
Having spent quite a few hours yesterday checking out my lenses with my Nikon D810 body using charts and the Spyder lens cal I was surprised that all my lenses seem to be focusing fine. On previous D800s almost all of the same lenses needed some adjustment. I am assuming the quality control has been very much improved with the fabrication in another factory, just wondering if any other D810 owner has needed less fine tuning if any.
robert_bouknight1
My D810 seems a little better with AF than the D800 I had, although I think I have some small adjustments in it for some lenses. It seems like I can hit focus a little better with both my eye and the electronic rangefinder with manual focus lenses, as well. I did not really expect much of an increased in-focus keeper rate, so that pleasant surprise helps makes the upgrade worth it for me.
ilkka_nissila
I've had a similar experience; some of my lenses still need a bit of fine tuning on the D810 but the settings are much closer to zero than with the D800 where I had to use the whole adjustment scale.
ellis_vener_photography
I've notoced the same thing with both the D810 and the D750. My theory is that it has to do with the focus information the lens and the body exchange to automatically self-calibrate for each lens or possibly each shot. Mostly I have my bodies in AF-C 9-point or single point mode.
