Filters for a 9cm f4 Elmar

What's the screw in filter size for an Ernst Leitz Wetzlar Elmar

f=9cm 1:4 Serial prefix 413XXX?

 

I'm looking for a UV/protective filter, black & white filters (i.e.

red, yellow, etc) and most importantly a front lens cap!

The Elmar 9cm f4.0 uses A36 push on filters the threads in the front are not then same pitch as std filter threads and none are made that will fit. There is an adapter that will go from A36 push on to E39 (which is 39mm screw in) these show up on ebay regularly and some times at bigger used Leica dealers on the net.

The fitting that accepts E39 filters and clamps onto a 36mm lens flange is the SOOGZ. Over the years I have acquired several and they are almost permanently clamped onto my 36mm lenses. That way one size filters fit most of my major lenses. The older 36mm push or clamp on filters are in most cases inferior to modern filters. When I did a lot of B&W work I had several filters in each color I used so that I wouldn�t have to be constantly screwing them in and out if changing lenses.

Additionally, the modern clip on lens shades readily fit the SOOGZ.

I had SK Grimes make a custom adapter ring that SCREWS into the 90mm ELmar and steps it up to 39mm. Coast was $50 and well worth it.

Filters made to screw into the Summar 50/2 will screw into the "A36" Elmar 90/4 just fine. Canon used the same 34mm threads on some of their lenses as well, so I think that they are pretty standard.
