silent1
If anyone here doesn't already automatically read the B&W Film and Processing forum, you should take a short detour over there and look at my thread, "Chinese Tri-X". Film testing/review thread, so I put if over there -- but all the shots were taken with my Voigtlander Rollfilmkamera. Why? It makes the consistently best quality images of any of my natively 120 cameras.
Oh, and BTW, if you're after a really inexpensive 120 film, ISO 400, that gives a nice "classic" look, look no further then J&C Photo and get a few rolls of Lucky SHD 400. Lucky may have made crappy film a while back -- but they've apparently gotten their act together; this stuff is nice! And cheap, too, about half the price of Tri-X, yet it comes in a nice printed one-roll box (not just the red foil-paper wrapper), and has a glossy, bright white backing similar to that on TMY. Not many published times for it, but at least in HC-110 it seems to like the same times as old TX.

cenelsonfoto
excellent. I shot some J&C sent to me by... dang, who sent that to me? Mark, that was you, yes? At any rate, not bad. Not bad at all.
mfophotos
Thanks for the heads-up Don on the new film. CE - yup, that wuz me. Glad you liked it? That reminds me of a photography that is timely considering the latest Lucas offering:
Did you hear about the digital photographer that went to large format?
Yep, another convert to the dark slide....

now I will cover my ears... silent1
I'm pretty happy with the film world right now. I can't afford Kodak (at least not regulary), but there are in fact other films, and pretty decent ones, I can afford, between the Pro 100 and the SHD 400. As long as I can afford film, I'll be able to manage the other stuff -- I keep getting good cameras for next to nothing, chemicals are cheap (at least over their life, though the lump sum can be painful when I have to buy a big bottle of something), even paper isn't too bad, and I've already got an enlarger and lenses. Just need to get the bathroom darkened, and I'll be ready to spend a few months remembering what I barely learned about printing 20 and 30 years ago. larrydressler
Lucky is a great film now that Kodak is part owner. I am wondering if that with a litle American knowlege and alot of Chinese sweat that this is not like when the Japonese Started to make Cameras after WWII? Hmmm Just a thought
david_richert
Some people in the west think nothing of going out and buying a $300 digital camera for snap shots. While Billions yes billions of people in the rest of the world struggle with the expense of shooting a roll or two of film just to record family events. Simple film cameras and film will be around in the emerging nations for years to come. My in laws in Thailand use to borrow a neighbors camera just to take a few pictures to send to my wife. After my first vist I left them a 35mm point and shoot to use (now all the neighbors borrow it)Film will be around for a little longer until the rest of the world comes into the 20th yes 20th centry.
