Film Camera Week for October 16

Discussion in 'Classic Manual Cameras' started by Mike Gammill, Oct 15, 2020.

  1. Greetings all and welcome to our new thread. Post all the photos you like from any film camera. I'll start with some film I processed and scanned earlier in the week. Camera was Olympus XA with cold-stored Panatomic-X (from a bulk roll expired in 1982)
restaurant interior 1 (shutter open several seconds and tripped by self timer)
restaurant interior 2 (both interior shots with lens at f 5.6)
windows lighted by sunlight from opposite side of building
late afternoon (in Starkville from The Grill parking lot)
The XA's electronic shutter release is smooth enough that I can often get by with slower shutter speeds than I can with other cameras.
handheld, probably around 1/8 to 1/15 second
If this looks familiar it's because I took another image at same location using a Minolta XE. Car served as "tripod" for the self-timer tripped exposure.
    One more:
edge of parking lot (clearly shows typical light fall-off from the XA lens)
Looking forward to seeing everyone's images.
  2. A great start to the thread, Mike. Just love the tones you're producing with that Panatomic-X. (Sigh...) Here are a few from a Nikon F90X with a Nikon 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6D lens. The film was Ilford FP4 Plus developed in PMK Pyro.

  8. Plus-X was a favorite of mine in my early days in 35mm photography.

Much later I found a roll of it in the back of a cupboard:

Some parts of the roll were relatively OK, but there were large sections that had a not-altogether unpleasant granularity:

Another issue was that the the Contaflex Prima I used was not entirely OK.
  9. Great images. Thanks for the compliment, Rick. I still have some of that bulk roll of Panatomic-X left, but I'm only using it occasionally. I also have some later stock (24xp rolls) in storage. If stored properly it just doesn't show fog. I've shot some as outdated as 1964 and still gotten fog free results. PMK Pyro and FP4+ is a great combination, Rick. Great shots with the Silvermax 100, James. A great film, but a little expensive for everyday use (but I've been using 100' bulk film since the 1970's) I found a roll a while back and posted some shots from it. I think I'd shot more of it if it had been available in bulk. JDM- over the years I've probably shot more Plus-X than any film except Tri-X. Plus-X was often overlooked because it didn't offer as much speed as Tri-X. While I was in college my dad would keep Tri-X in the loader for most of the year, but during the summer he would load it with Plus-X. I'm down to just a few 24 exp rolls of Plus-X, but I've got a dozen or so rolls of 120 though. When I was in college I tried Plus-X in Acufine a few times (rated at E.I. 250) and liked the results. Over the years I've souped Plus-X in D-76, Acufine, Diafine, Paterson FX-39, Rodinal, Ilford Microphen, DK-50, and of course, HC110. I think that's more different developers than I used with any other film.
    Again, great job.

So I decided to take a break from photography as the pandemic took hold but then GAS took over and I got hold of a Nikon S3. As it looks like we might be heading for another lockdown I am staying very close to home so this is all I've got. Nikon S3, Nikkor 50mm f/1.4, Ilford FP4+,V700 scan.

  19. Great use of the 28mm Nikkor, Rick. I have an AI version that I use with my FE2 and Nikkormat FT3. I should use it more often.
  20. More of night photography
