Film Camera Week for July 21

Recommended Posts

Time to start our next weekly thread. I hope everyone has had a great week. I'll start with a few. I'll post a mix of both classic manual film cameras and some modern.

From the "way back machine", all the way back to 1989. Every Labor Day Weekend we would cover the windows of our family camera shop with past Prairie Arts Festival photos. My dad would spend a couple of days putting them up.

Greetings,

No scans this week and it's just been too hot to get out and enjoy much photography, so I thought I'd do another mini-review.

Here is a nice GAF L-ES (rebranded Chinon CE Memotron) with the excellent Argus Auto-Cintar 55/1.7. I picked up the body for just 99 cents on eBay (plus shipping) in near-mint working condition a few years ago. The Chinon Memotron cameras were sold sold under various brand names including Argus, Alpa, Porst, and Sears.

Chinon also offered a nice series of multicoated lenses with distinctive tapered "corncob" shape and gloss enamel finish, also sold under the Auto-Alpa label. Shown are the Chinon 85-210/4.5 zoom and the 28/2.8. The zoom has 1:3 macro focusing and is an excellent performer. Apparently, the same lens (with some minor cosmetic differences) was sold by Tamron. I always thought these lenses had some resemblance to Tamron's BBAR lens series.

Something of a mixed bag here, as we had only one day last week that was suitable for getting out with a camera. I'll try to post a few more later in the weekend.

Here are three from the Mamiya 645 1000s with 55-110mm Mamiya Sekor f/4.5 lens. The film was Bergger Pancro 400 developed in PMK Pyro.

Thanks, Richard. That little Oly 35RC is great for bringing along on cycling trips. The meter went south a couple of years ago so I just use sunny 16 and bracket a little more. I was fortunate a few years back to find a K2 filter to fit the odd 43.5 mm filter thread.

A few more Chinons in various forms: Argus CR-1, GAF L-ES, and Chinon CS. I only have the GAF now.

Mike--the Chinon version of the 85-210/4.5 is a fixed M42 mount. The focusing grips and distance scale are different from the Tamron model.
