Not much time for photography in the week past, but here are a few from a couple of weeks ago.The camera was a Bronica S2a fitted with a 135mm Nikkor-Q f/3.5 lens, the film was Ilford HP5 Plus developed in PMK Pyro, and the scans are from an Epson V700 Photo using Silverfast SE software.

I re-assembled a Contaflex Super B. There are problems on the manual Shutter Speed side, but I was pleased to see the resurrected meter. I left it on the window sill on a hot day I remember later, the Auto Aperture ..the "B" of the Super "B" was not responding correctly. . Worse was that the aperture was now stuck in the open position. So to make a long 2 year story short. I cleaned it all up but something is not right in the manual shutter side of the aperture dial after re-assembly. I wanted to see if the auto "B" (belichtungsmesser) worked so I quickly shot a roll to see what it was like.... I haven't adjusted the values, scan only. I would never have been able to get this done without the help of this Forum and specifically Brett Rogers. This was Kentmere in D76.

Again forced different light. The fresnel in the finder is helpful, but deceitful. Use the S/L Rangefinder.

Back, with a few more from Bill Bowes' Calumet 4x5, 215mm f/6.3 Caltar, Agfa APX 100, Epson V800.

They are coming out okay, but I think I'm missing something in my developing / scanning / Photoshop flow. I'll post about that separately and ask for assistance.

Anyhow, happy weekend!

Rick, if you would be so kind as to point me to your Silverfast scanning settings, I would be ever so appreciative. I'm guessing over here.

Brad, I don't know that I have any fixed settings, as such. Have a look at the link below; about half-way through I outline my workflow with Silverfast. It may be of assistance. Feel free to mail me if I can be of help.

Hello everyone. Brad, I opened my Epson software settings for the V800 & here is what I was using to do my 4x5 scans up to last year.

16 bit grey scale.. . . . . .3200 dpi. . . . . Film= B/W. . . . Un-sharp mask ON. . . .Dust Removal ON. Nothing else but dim's for the scan size of negs.

The combi pic below is from 1970's (left) & 2000, the last year I "seriously" used the 4x5.

Left neg developed in D-76 (straight) for 14 min, Right neg developed in PMK-Pyro again for 14 min. Both negs exposed via a Pentax Spot meter & values placed on "Normal" for exposure & development. G filter both exposures. 1801000890_2k17-4x5-543-002-ces10bc-horz.thumb.jpg.a22ba9483e2f628ad0c3d576a18ca8f6.jpg V800 scan per above.

If you are getting negs that look good, stay with that process & zero in on the scanning. Post processing, aim to have texture in any highlites & texture in the blackish shadows. Yes, I just "lectured" on the Zone System, but even in this age of scanning & electronic cameras, this part of history works! A "new for me" XE-1 digi camera works great with Mr. Adams creation.

I have always gone for neg's that have full detail & print well in wet chemisty/paper. One variable at a time. Aloha, Bill
