Favorite wide-angle landscape lenses

  1. My favorite landscape lens is the Canon 16-35 f4
  2. My favorite landscape lens is the Nikon 16-35 f/4
  3. Easy, the only wide lenses that I have
    - Nikon DX = 18mm (short end of the zoom)
    - 35mm = 24mm prime (widest lens that took a 52mm filter, at the time I built my kit)

AF-S 17-35mm on a full frame body. It's been my go-to lens for wide for 15 years Police car BMW Vatican 850 6110.jpg
  5. I shot MF 6x6 and my favourite wide angle lens is the 40mm
  6. CZJ Flektogon 20/4 is a respectable wide angle lens
  7. Dieter, I like that lens as well. Since it has image stabilization good for 3-4 stops, I really like it for low light especially in museums, churches etc that prohibit tripods. I can hand hold it easily to half to a full second. Tend to use 3 shot bursts, possible camera shake on 1 and 3 pressing and releasing shutter, but 2 is usually sharp. Bracing on a pew or pillar helps as well.

Don't have any, never had any Large Format W/A lenses.

Medium Format, I had kit of Pentax 6x7 and I had a Fisheye Lens with that kit, I think that is an amazing lens for (certain situations) for Landscape Photographs: I would crop top and bottom for the Final Print.

135 Format, and my EOS Digital kit, I thought that the EF 24/1.4L (especially for low light and/or to acquire a necessarily fast Shutter Speed) or the EF 24 to 105/4 L IS were both very nice; here is the zoom at 24mm:

But I recently bought a Samyang 14mm f/2.8 IF ED UMC and I think that is my favourite now:

  10. for 35mm, I love the nikon 14-24 and my tiny 28mm f3.5 ai lens.

  12. My new favorite ultra wide lens is the Irix 15mm 2.4 it is fantastically sharp on a Nikon D810 very little distortion almost no softening till you go beyond f14.
This is Zeiss quality for a third of the price and the build quality is superb.
  13. I thought awhile about this before replying, because I only use a small format (M4/3) and I'm not a landscape specialist. However, I recollect that I have used every lens in the bag, from 9mm to 300mm, to make landscape images, and I don't think in terms of a favourite lens or focal length. A recent pleasing shot was taken with a 14-45mm zoom at 16mm, and this must be round about my sweet spot in terms of percentages.

  14. My favorite ultra-wide, for full-frame is my Canon EF 14mm f/2.8L II. It's sharp out into the corners and has very little geometric distortion. I prefer using it for big-sky images, or to get something ultra-close in the foreground and then still have a broad background.

Below, I've cropped 5:2 for a panoramic effect from one file. Also, there was a lot of nothing in the sky above the clouds, so I got rid of that for more power in the final image:

My EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II serves my other wide-angle needs, for times when there's not a big sky, or the matters of interest are not spread out. I use both the 14mm and the 24-105mm on full-frame bodies.

  15. My current favorite super-wide angle lens is the Olympus 7-14mm f/2.8 (M43 format). However, it's usually too wide when there's no specific purpose to include so many items into the composition. So my favorite M43 lens remains to be Olympus 12-40mm f2.8 which, in most situations, more than suffices as a wide angle landscape lens.
  16. The Canon EF 17mm f4 TS-E L is my favourite lens on a full frame body for landscapes. While my favourite that I used for 4x5 was a Schneider 65mm f8 Super Angulon, I always wanted to try a Schneider 47 XL. My favourite when I shot a Mamiya 6x6 was a 55mm but always wanted to try the Hasselblad SWC with 38mm Biogon.
  17. I only own 2 lenses. A 28mm and a 50mm. I like them both but I suppose the 50mm is my favorite.

My most used wide-angle lens on my Canon 5D II is my Canon 24-105mm L lens at 24mm. For nightscape images my new favorite is my Rokinon 24mm f:1.4. It has little chromatic aberration wide-open.
