acearle
Hi, at some point a few weeks ago, I must have done something wrong inmy CSM settings. It USED to be that the viewfinder data would remainfor a few seconds (5-6 seems about right) after I'd autofocused ashot. That would allow me to do the usual shutter speed/aperturesettings without having to hold down the shutter release. However, after my explorations of custom settings, I seem to have disabled thisincredibly useful feature and for the life of me can NOT figure outwhere I changed it. If anyone could point me in the right direction, Iwould REALLY appreciate it :-).
aardvarko
You can't entirely disable the in-finder metering display via CSMs. (You can reduce the time that it stays active, sure, but not disable it entirely.)
david_h._hartman
If your batteries are dying the meter may shut down as soon as you remove your finger from the shutter release button.
david_h._hartman
I scanned the F80/N80 manual can cant find anything to support my statement above but I think my F100 does that. It could be my FE2.<br> <br> Anyway custom setting 15:6 or 15:8 is what you probably want. 15:6 is the default.<br> <br> If the camera is really messed up you can use the two button reset as follows...</p> <blockquote> <p><strong>Two-Button Reset:</strong> Press the <strong>(BKT)</strong><br> and <strong>(+/-)</strong> buttons (indicated with green<br> dots) simultaneously, and hold them<br> for more than 2 seconds.</p> </blockquote> <p>I'll attach an HTML of the custom settings for the N80. I think you can right click the link and select "Save target as..."<br> <br> Hope this helps,<br> <br> Dave Hartman.
david_h._hartman
Alton, I'm the worlds worst proofreader so please check out the attached HTML and please tell me if you see any errors. Thank You! Dave Hartman.
acearle
David, thanks. That makes sense. My battery indicator has been showing 1/2 for the last 20 rolls (I use the grip with NiMH AAs). I took the "fresh" batteries out of the charger two weeks ago thinking that the ones in there were dying...and lo and behold, they are still relatively well charged. In the intervening two weeks, the "fresh" set had lost enough charge (one o' them wondrous things about NiMH) to also register 1/2. I'm gonna go home and drop BOTH sets in the charger...it makes sense that in a low power situation that the meter would not stay on, I think that is most likely the problem (had not occurred to me...logic...I recognize it when I see it, but try my DARNDEST not to use it :-D). Will post the results tomorrow (my time...probably also yours).
acearle
Low batteries was causing the problem. Simple solution :-D. Thanks!
