dennis_gallus
The exposure hold button on my F3 has gotten lost for the second time. The first time, it was replaced free while I waited by Nikon service in Yokohama. This time, because the part has been redesigned, both Nikon and my repairman here in the US say the camera must be disassembled at great cost. Does anyone out there have one of the old replacement buttons or an acceptable substitute? Thanks
david_h._hartman
Buy it from Nikon. Do it right way as you will have problems if you don't get another one in there soon. If you do not replace the button you will eventually have to have the camera opened up and the switch inside replaced.
Robert_Lai
Are they serious? The button holds in there only by a slight "bulb" elongation of the shaft of the button. When the F3 came out, the bulge was too small, and the button easily fell out. The "new" bulb design is slightly bigger. When I purchased my F3 in 1984, the button kept falling out. I called Nikon Canada (I was in Canada at the time), and they mailed me the "new" replacement for free. I still have that "new" one 21 years later.
You can get a brand new one from Nikon USA's parts facility.
Nikon USA
841 Apollo Street, Suite 100
El Segundo, CA 90245-4721
Tel: 310-414-8107
Toll Free: 1-800-NIKONSV (for service support)
Ask for "F3 exposure memory lock button". I can't see this costing more than $1.00, but what do I know? It's been 2 decades since I needed one.
You DON'T need to disassemble the camera (assuming you haven't messed it up in some other way).
1) Obtain item.
2) Long shaft of button goes into the hole in the camera
3) Press down firmly. You will feel the bulb move past its holding point.
4) Enjoy.
lee hamiel
Check at Huron Camera - they are 6.95 - I've dealt with them before & great service. dennis_gallus
Thanks to all of you for your rapid responses. Lee, I just ordered the replacement button for $6.95 from Huron Camera. No fooling, Nikon USA wanted me to ship the camera to them for installation and my trusty old repairman, Mora Camera in Washington DC, verified that Nikon changed the part so it must be secured from the inside--Cost approximately $165, same as for a CLA (which the camera had less than 20 rolls ago). You guys are great, thanks again.Dennis
