flatulent1
I may be about to buy an F100. Looking on ebay, I see many come with the MB15. While I think an add-on power booster can be a useful thing, I don't necessarily want to use one permanently. For example, I bought an F4s a few years ago; it came with the short grip, and I've found I prefer the F4 in the small configuration. Likewise I bought an EOS 1V with PB-E2, and tend not to use the PB-E2.

Now, my question: Does any part of the F100 have to be removed from the camera in order to attach the MB15, like a short grip (as in the 1V and F4), or does the camera have a battery door that just flips out of the way to facilitate installation of the booster (ala Elan 7N)?

I have no problem buying an F100 with MB15 attached, but I really don't want to have to scurry around trying to find a missing part if I want to use the camera small. I realize that if I limited myself to just those F100's without the MB15 I wouldn't have that problem, but there are a LOT of F100s available with the grip, and I'd hate to pass on a good thing if I don't need to. Thanks!
lilly_w
The only thing you need to remove from the F100 is the 4-AA battery holder (Nikon MS-12). It pops right out with a twist of the latch.
Andy Collins
Congrats in advance on buying the F100. As a Canon shooter it still amazes me how quickly it has become one of my favorite cameras. While I like the performance of the 1v more (still my all-time favorite camera), the size of the F100 is just perfect, slightly more compact, and I love the full range of info in the viewfinder. Plus it feels very solid, as though it could withstand anything. I've already had mine out in blizzard weather, soaking wet and cold, and it never missed a beat. Enjoy yours!
rossb
You have to remove the battery compartment cover and the insert that holds the 4 AA batteries.
Michael R Freeman
As others have noted, the MS-12 AA battery holder needs to be removed to attach the battery booster pack. If you do buy a F100 with the MB-15 attached, make certain that the seller still has the AA holder and that it is included in the sale.

If not, the MS-12 is still available new for $20.
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/165830-REG/Nikon_105_MS_12_AA_Battery_Holder.html
jim_steranko
There's also a small rubber strip which needs to be removed from the underside of the F100 before the grip can be attached. This exposes a set of gold-plated contacts. The rubber strip can be stored in a little depression on the top of the grip where it mates with the camera.
If buying camera + grip I'd ensure that the rubber contact cover is present.

flatulent1
I just had another more careful look through the auctions currently available... None of the bodies with grips make mention of the MS12 or the little rubber cover. Read a couple of comments about the rewind fork though, and one or two allusions to non-sticky backs. I see I have a little studying to do!

Stephen_Prunier
The F100/M15 is an AWESOME setup! When I got mine, I needed to purchase the MS-12 so I could use my L bracket with the ballhead. Locating and buying a new one was easy.
