ward
Hello-- I have terrible dust problems with a dimage multi II. I tried scanning the MF film holder with no film in it and got a tremendous speckling of white dust spots. I tried cleaning the glass holder but spots remain. Can the sensor get dusty the way the sensor in my canon DSLR can? Does the inside of the machine need to be vacuumed? Any do-it-yourself suggestions would be very helpful! --w
peterblaise
. Hi Ward, Clean everything with an anti-static cleaner, including opening up the unit and cleaning ANYTHING the air can get too and where dust can fall. I use Singh Ray RayVu cleaner fluid, and Ilford's AntiStaticum cloth, and a StaticMaster brush or ZeroStat piezoelectric anti-static discharge gun. Also, in high air conditioning during the summer or in dry heat in the winter, you may have too little humidity to "ground" static charges, so beware of your own charge as you walk towards or away from the system, and ground yourself first! Also, up the humidity in the room with an Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier, and use only highly filtered water from a Brita or Pur type water filter and also look for a deminilerizer for the humidifier water so it doesn't pump white filmy powder into the air, and finally, get micronic HEPA air filters like the Brookstone Pure Ion unit. Lemme see .. have we built a clean room yet? ;-) Sing Ray RayVu anti static cleaning fluid: http://www.singh-ray.com/rayvu.html Ilford Antistaticum cleaning cloth: http://www.adorama.com/ILASC.html Statimaster radioactive antistatic brush: http://www.amstat.com/solutions/staticmaster.html Zerostat piezoelectric antistatic gun: http://www.2spi.com/catalog/photo/zerostat.shtml Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifiers: http://www.allergybuyersclub.com/compare-humid.html Brita and Pur and other filters: http://www.waterfiltercomparisons.com/water_filter_comparison_matrix.cfm HEPA and electrostatic air cleaners: http://www.brookstone.com/shop/product.asp?product_code=506840&search_type=search&search_words=pure%20ion&prodtemp=t2&cm_re=Result*R1C1*A and http://www.allergybuyersclub.com/all-hepa-air-cleaners.html ... Ward, all it takes is throwing money at the problem! ;-) Works for me, and keeps the economy healthy in the meantime! =8^o Let us know what happens for you. Click! William Kahn
I have the same probleml, which is why I finally gave up on scanning MF in the Multi II and went for a Microtek 1800f instead. One of my major beefs with the Multi is having to do the cleaning process with every scan, plus only being able to load one negative at a time. The Multi II is great for 35mm, but really slows down the workflow for MF.
