jeff_ford
I've an Epson V700 and hae only scanned a few (badly processed) B&W negs using the supplied Epson software. Should I automatically witch to Vuescan (or other recommended software) if I intend to scan more negs (colour and B&W)?
Anything else I should consider, glass neg holders for example....?

Thank you
ellis_vener_photography
SilverFast is as good as it gets for scanning software but the interface is complicated.
custom film holders for fl
Download the demo versions of Vuescan and Silverfast and then use them. Then you can decide for yourself if they will accomplish what you desire.
StuartMoxham
I would start by scanning with the epson software and the stock film holders getting used to that first and then try some other software.
starvy
I have to say that I 'love' Vuescan full version.

francisco_disilvestro
I will comment about Epson Scan and Silverfast

Epson Software:
Pro's: User friendly interface, easy to use
Con's: Limited color management options, basically limited to epson standard RGB as input profile (similar to sRGB)

Siverfast:
Con's: Expensive, software license is scanner specific and functionality varies by version (SE, AI Studio, IT8, etc.), complicated interface.
Pro's: full color management, negative film profiles (negafix)

I second Doug Fisher advice to download the free trials of Vuescan and Silverfast and then decide.
