Epson 2200 Paper: Luster vs. Semigloss

Recommended Posts

I am about to purchase a vast ammount of printing paper. I am

wondering about the Epson semigloss vs the luster. I love the simi

gloss (provided in the samples with the printer). It reminds me of

Ilford Pearl photopaper. The problem is that there is no 11x17

(Why?!). Are the differences very great, I was thinking of getting

the 8.5x11, and 13x19 in semigloss, and the 11x17 in luster. What

are the main differences between these two? Should I just get all my

paper in luster?

Forget either of those Epson papers. I loved them for my 870 and 1160 printers with dye inks but with the 2200 I find the blacks and whites of images are too patchy. Instead I recommend the Ilford Smooth Pearl inkjet paper. Extremely similar to the Epson Lustre and prints much better on the 2200.
If the Epson reminds you of the Ilford Pearl photo paper I sort of think Ilford Smooth Pearl inkjet paper will too. Great stuff.

There is a sample pack at www.inkjetart.com item number PA-SEMI-SAMPLE for $5.60 which "Includes 2 sheets of each: Premium Semigloss, Premium Luster, ColorLife". This way you can try both paper types and see for yourself which you like best while keeping the investment down.

I use luster in my everyday printing buy you must judge for yourself.

Best,

Eric (not connected in any way to inkjetart.com)
