EP-1 LCD-can I turn it off

Discussion in 'Olympus' started by paulferesten, May 13, 2010.

  1. If I am using the optical viewfinder on the EP-1, I would like to turn off the LCD. Anypne know how to do this?
    Thanks

  2. Try pressing the INFO button multiple times. That's typically how you do it with Olympus cameras. The first press may bring up the digital level and a second press completely turns the LCD off.
If that does not work, it may not be possible with an E-P1 since that's the only viewing method other than the optical finder you can buy for the 17mm, which I am assuming is the one you refer to having.

Map it to the Fn button and you should have an easy on/off for the LCD.

  4. How can I turn off the LCD monitor?
It may be desirable at times to turn off the Live View LCD. For example, photographers may wish to do so when composing shots using the optional VF-1 optical viewfinder. This is accomplished by setting the BACKLIT LCD function to OFF.
For convenience, the BACKLIT LCD function can be assigned to the [[IMG]] button, which is located just above and to the left of the arrow key pad on the back of the camera. Once assigned, simply press the [[IMG]] button to turn off the LCD and press it again to turn it back on when you want to resume shooting using Live View.
To assign the BACKLIT LCD function to the [[IMG]] button, do the following:
    1. Press the [MENU] button.
    2. Press the Down Arrow button repeatedly until [IMG] (Custom Menu) is selected.
    3. Press the Right Arrow button once to enter the Custom Menu.
    4. Press the Down Arrow button to select [IMG] BUTTON/DIAL, and then press the Right Arrow button.
    5. Use the arrow pad to select the Custom Function menu item. It looks like this: [IMG]FUNCTION
    6. Press the Right Arrow button to view the [IMG] Function menu. Use the arrow pad to scroll down to BACKLIT LCD and select it.
    7. Press [[IMG]] to activate the selection, and then press [MENU] to exit the menu.
Note: The functions of the [AEL/AFL] and the [[IMG]] buttons can be interchanged. To swap them:
    1. Press the [MENU] button.
    2. Press the Down Arrow button until [IMG] is selected.
    3. Next, press the Right Arrow button to enter the Custom Menu.
    4. Press the Down Arrow button to select [IMG] BUTTON/DIAL, and then press the Right Arrow button.
    5. Use the arrow pad to select the function swap icon, which looks like this:
    6. Press the Right Arrow button to enter the sub menu. Select ON to have AEL/AFL functions performed when [[IMG]] is pressed, and vice-versa.
Thanks for the instruction and link. Very helpful,
    Robert
