rob_ruttan
Hey folks...I've cleaned the contacts repeatedly & properly, but my Canon 50mm lens no longer seems to connect with my EOS 7D. Is it worth repair, or should I replace? Thanks!!
Mark Keefer
Which 50mm len? Some 50mms are fairly expensive Like the Canon 50mm f/1.2 L with prices ranging new and used from $900-$1350 That probably would be worth getting repaired if reasonable price. Some are very low priced like the 50mm f/1.8 that you can find from $80-$125, the repair and shipping might be more than the lens is worth. Cheers, Mark
JDMvW
It is just the 50mm lens and no others? And just on the 7D? If it is the 50mm f/1.8 Mark I "plastic fantastic" you can, as Mark says, possibly buy a working, pre-owned one for less than a repair. However, I have had a EF 35mm f/2 repaired for a reasonable fee, so you might call and see. The older 50mm (mark I) is still a good lens, perhaps especially on an APS-C body where it is a "portrait" lens focal length equivalent. The "bokeh" on the early model can be a little spikey, so if you want it for portrait work on the updates might be worth it.
