mike_hitchen
My wife has just bought a 600D (T3i) and we are wondering what speed SDHC card it needs for maxiumum performance shooting stills (3.7Mb/sec at 18 megapixel RAW).
She has a Sandisk Extreme HD video card (30Mb/sec) apparently it is a Class 6 card. The 30mb/sec would suggest to me a speed of about 1.8 frames/sec (30MB divided by 18MB) - or do the maths work differently to that? I have had a look on the net for information about SD cards for the similarly-specced 550D but can't find anything.

Any help appreciated!
mbkissel
Canon recommends a Class 6 or higher for this camera. I tried a Class 4 but it could not keep up with the video. Bought a Class 10 and it works great.
mike_hitchen
Thanks, Mark.

I have just re-checked the Sandisk website and it refers to 'Class 6 video performance'.
So a follow up question is whether there is any difference between a SD card and a 'SD HD video' card. It counds like a marketing ploy to me. Or am I being overly cynical?
rjtully
I use Adata SDHC Class 10. Price is right and they work very well. Have not tried SDXC and since I now have a 7D will not be buying more for my backup T1i.
mbkissel
Mike, I'm not sure what a SD HD card is, other than a regular SDHC. You're probably right about the marketing thing since buzzwords like "3D" and "HD" are popular in the video industry right now.
