peng_kit_wong
Which 24-70 L are you using? I heard that there is a made in Japan version and a made in United States version and maybe Taiwan as well. I was wondering if there are any difference. I want to get this lense badly and I have read that there are some troubles with certain lense. Cheers! PuppyDigs
They're all made in Japan. However, they ship with different warranty cards depending on country of distribution. It would be cool if Americans would build precision optics in mass. Back in the day, I made an 8 inch Newtonian reflector. Took me months of grinding and polishing to arrive at a decent objective mirror. I can't really magine factories with hundreds on Americans sitting at workstations tweaking camera optics... claude_batmanghelidj
That is so true! I live here in Japan, and after observing how the Japanese operate, I would have to agree!
alexandru_petrescu
Typical L lenses (and some non-L) have a marking in the mount area, letters and digits. That is a code. Part of that code says where it's made and when, I believe. But I can't remember where I've seen the legend. Or I may be wrong on the "where" part... alexandru_petrescu
Some explanations about the Serial Numbers on the EF lenses, including 'U' for manufacturing place, <a href="http://www.robgalbraith.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB8&Number=239065&Main=239065">http://www.robgalbraith.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB8&Number=239065&Main=239065</a> <p> And <a href="http://www.nyip.com/tips/topic_firstslr0503.php">this</a> page seems to say that the EF 28-90 II (kitted with Rebel Ti)'s serial number is manufactured in Taiwan. Assembling somewhere parts produced somewhere else is anothere issue...
