tony_b
Hello, I've received today an EF 85 4/1.8 that I've purchased used on ebay for 300 Euros (new here in Europe is about 600 Euros). From Ebay description, this lens should be in very good condition but once I received it I noticed a fungus spot inside the front element, this spot is about 5 mm x 5 mm and located on the side of the front elemnet near the filter screw. I think that the fungus wont have an effect on the image quality right now (didnt test it yet). I have never had fungus on any of my lebses, so I dont know if this spot will remain as it is now or it will grow and expand. What do you think about it ? Should I keep the lens or try to return it ? Thanks
jimvanson
Tony...return it if you can. It may not affect lens performance but it may start to grow...B&H sells the 85 f1.8 for about 280 Euros or try someone like Calumet or Robert White in England. ron c sunshine coast, qld,a
At the moment it is harmless and optically irrelivant but it will likely grow in time then you will be faced with a repair bill of eu50 + (a guess). If you have the option of returning it you may want to do that now.A fungus patch that size is not something a seller should miss in their description.
