You can fake it a little by trying some HDR portraits, silly stuff- some stuff can be changed in photoshop- but most of his look comes from being a major pro at off-camera lighting</p>

<p>I heard something similar before, about painting with light to achieve the effect but then saw portraits of other photographers in what seems to be street photography with no controlled lighting, the effect is very similar and since you mention it HDR could have been used at some point.</p>

<p>What software are you using to do your post production?<br /><br />If you Google for "draganizing tutorials" you will find many, many walk-throughs that show you step by step how to handle that specific process. Of course, the image will always look better if you have a well-lit, properly exposed shot to start with.</p>
