ron_goodenow
Can someone point me in the direction of a good discussion of DOF ondslr's? I have an Evolt and in addition to a dedicated E-system lenshave some K mounts and an OM lens. The telephotos give me greatresults but I am having some problems getting good focus from 28mm and50mm standard lenses wide open at medium (less than infinity)distances. It is not just the usual softness that comes from a fastlens, and I can't attribute all of it to my diopter setting, etc. I'mbeginning to suspect DOF. Stopped down a bit (f2.8 or higher) theyare very sharp but at 2.8 or higher their value diminishes. Thanks.

bobatkins
Well, there's always http://www.photo.net/learn/optics/dofdigital/.
I think it's the best article on DOF and Digital ever written, but then I know the author pretty well...
You might also want to take a look at Sharpness, Aperture and Diffraction (by the same author!), though if you're taking about apertures wider than maybe f11, diffraction isn't much of a factor. leonard_evens
I'm glad to see Bob Atkins doesn't suffer from false modesty. But he is perfectly right. His article is the best place to start.
