jemini_joseph
I'm looking for a small flash which should work like a built in flash for my F100. I like n80's built in flash. I noticed that with my SB- 28 I can use my camera like a point and shoot and 99% of time it works greate (only with D lenses). So 3D mutisensor balanced fill flash is greate. I don't want to carry SB-28 all the time. I would like to get a small flash which I can keep on the camera all the time and pop it up whenever required. I'll be using this to shoot family and travel. For serious photography I allway use manual flash with sb-28 SB-30 is ideal in all respect. very small, light weight ,foldable and a good enough guide number of 52 (which is 104 with 400 iso film) but its spec doesn't say it has a 3D multisensor fill flash. Just says TTL. Does anybdy know if it has 3D flash? Thanks
Jerry_
You can send your question to Nikon USA via e-mail at www.nikonusa.com and see what the experts have to say. (My guess is the SB-30 does not....)
Jerry_
Look at this http://www.nikon-image.com/eng/news_release/2002/sb-30.htm and I was wrong...oh well, it is Tuesday.
jim_gifford
Having looked at the specs on the Nikon USA site and in the release Gerald pointed us toward... the answer evidently is that the SB-30 does not have 3D multisensor flash capability. Just four modes: TTL (plus "balanced fill flash" whatever that is), and auto, and manual, and wireless slave. Perhaps someone with an SB-30 can look in its manual to see is there is a specific yes or no on this question... it would be interesting to see whether the phrases "3D matrix" or "3D multisensor" appear in the manual anywhere. jemini_joseph
Thanks guys. It sounds like it doesn't have that. But I'll email Nikon though. In automatic mode it says F5,F100,n80 or F65. These are the cameras supporting D. N90s does it too. But I'm sure they are trying to avoid discontinued camera's names from the list. So still it's possible to have this. If it doesn't, that's little odd. How can they go back in technology?
ed_alban
The SB-30 does not support monitor pre-flash. But it does support "multi-sensor balanced fill-flash" on F5, F100 and F80, "matrix balanced fill-flash" on F4, and "standard TTL flash" on FM3A and F3. Other things you should be aware of: the SB-30 has no AF-assist light, no autozoom feature and its flash coverage is only 28mm with a 17mm adapter. jemini_joseph
Thanks Gerald, I never thought about sending a query to Nikon before you suggest this. i did and I've got an answer. The answer is NO!! It's really surprising why they walk backwards sometimes. Sad. Now I'm looking for a third party (if there's one). Thanks all of you who responded....
