steve_dawson1
I am disqualified from answering because I haven't used it, but the answer is: yes an SDHC 16GB card will work. Some people like to exercise caution and use several smaller cards.
mishuvass
I guess it would be ok if I just buy 2 cards of 8 G each (for caution) :)
Peter_in_PA
I think even 8G is too big. I wouldn't go above 2 or maybe 4. After all, that camera will store HUNDREDS of images on a 4G card.
joe_a2
And 4GB fits on a DVD.
mishuvass
It's just that I'm going to have a journey and wont take my laptop with me, and will have no time to search for a shop where they transfer pictures on dvds. Plus, I want to take raws. So... 4G wouldn't be enough, I guess.
manh_le
If you can afford this storage, then it'd be your solution. http://www.digitalfoci.com/picture_porter_elite.html
ShunCheung
The only Nikon DSLR that uses SD memory cards but is not SDHC-compatible is the very first one: the D50. Other than that, from the D80 and on, every Nikon DSLR that uses SD card is compatible with 16G SDHC cards.
knobby6
I use cf and I would go for the 8, as cards are so reliable now.
mishuvass
I'll go for several smaller cards and probably one of 8 (for just in case:).
mel_woods
Until the promised firmware upgrade becomes available (it is supposed to be out, but so far a no show,) you can not use more than a 4GB SD or SDHD card in a D40x. Here is the link for compatible cards from Nikon http://support.nikontech.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/14048/kw/Nikon%20D80/r_id/116678
And just a note my PNY 4GB SDHD card does not work in my D40x but my SanDisk 4GB SD does. The Lexar work intermittently so I'm thinking it is a bad card.
I am assuming you want feedback from someone that actually has used the D40x. Armchair theoreticians abound here...
mel_woods
Whoops I meant SDHC and that the Lexar works intermittently! Please 'scuse the spellin's!
mel_woods
And I gave the wrong link: the D40x compatible card link is: http://support.nikontech.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/14291/kw/Nikon%20D40x/r_id/116678
Going to go soak my head now! q_az
http://www.photo.net/nikon-camera-forum/00Oh4C
This guy posted the same question and then bought a 16gb sdhc card and shot 300 shots without a problem. HAbove is the link to his question on photo.net. It looks as though sdhc compliant means exactly that; that it will use the larger cards. Most of the responses have been about whether or not to use on and not whether or not they work. IF they do not work the camera may lead you to believe it is capturing the picture but the image will not be stored. This is from a past bad experience. Try it first on pictures that do not matter to be sure the photos are actually there before using when it really matters. (Personally I am going to buy one and try it since the prices are so cheap now and I need the capacity.)
