john_morris4
I just received a Leica IIIa in the mail, and it arrived without a take-up spool. That makes it even harder to load than usual.... Should the same type of spool that works in an M2 or M3 also work in the IIIa? Thanks,
sal dimarco
John, Sorry, they will not work together. The only screw mount Leica which uses an M3 style take up spool is the IIIG series cameras. Happy snaps, Sal

john_morris4
Darn. Thanks. Can anyone suggest where I should look (in the U.S.) for a replacement IIIa spool?
achilles
Possibly www.ritzcam.com has it.
melvin_bressler
John: I had the same problem, coincidentally, also for a IIIa, and NO ONE could get me the spool. The Leitz part #is 14021, which they don't make, but may still have in inventory. Try customer service at Leica-USA, and try Adorama, by telephone. They have a drawer of old stuff in the back. They cost about US$40-50, new, slightly less ($25-35?) used. Be warned in advance: when you get it, if its new, loading the first few rolls will drive you crazy because the tension loading clamp is so tight. Good luck.
