Sanford
My D50 battery isn't holding a charge very long any more. I need to take the D300 battery as a spare leaving the D300 battery-less for a few hours. Bad idea? I know the battery is serving some functions even with the camera turned off. Sandy Vongries
Might want to check with Shun, but I believe the D300 has an internal battery that recharges periodically off the main one for the clock and other features. As long as the camera is off and it isn't for an extended period, you S/B o.k.
ShunCheung
All of them have an internal battery to keep the clock running. If you leave the EN-EL3e battery out for days, or actually even though you may have the EN-EL3e inside but you leave it alone for months, it may deplete the battery and your clock will reset. Leaving the D300 without any battery for a few hours is not an issue at all. In fact, if you are not going to use the camera for a few weeks, it is probably not a good idea to keep the Li-ion battery inside. In one occasion my EN-EL15 battery leaked and damaged a D750.
Dieter Schaefer
Cameras are sitting in boxes and in stores without batteries - so no problem having it sit at home without one. As Sandy pointed out, there’s an internal battery that recharges from the main one. Worst thing that can happen is losing the time and other settings. rodeo_joe1
12 quid gets you 2 new off-brand En-el3a batteries from eBay. Plus numerous offers of part-used genuine Nikon ones. Why bugger about swapping batteries from one camera to another? Edited December 9, 2020 by rodeo_joe|1
