KenPapai
My brother-in-law uses the Canon 40D with a special case of course when he SCUBA dives. He also uses external lights underwater (usually the Monterey Bay area). He's won imaging awards too with that setup.
However, you have to be EXTRA cautious.

pictureted
There's no digital Nikonos. Either big housings for DSLRs or bitty things for P&S. The housings weigh 4-6 pounds and cost $2,000+. Too bad, this really is a missing market segment.
KenPapai
Extra cautious about housing links and perfect seals before you dive into the water double & triple check.
