john_stockdale2
I'm looking for a Softar and the auction site lists mostly Hasselblad bayonet ones. Can such a filter be taken apart easily? I want to put the glass in an ordinary filter mount of whatever size is necessary. I don't need a large size.
Rob F.
It's not hard to disassemble a hasselblad bayonet filter. There is a retaining ring with two holes, one on each side. They are meant for a spanner wrench, but I have no trouble opening them with a sharp pointed tool such as a scratch awl. The trick is NOT to grip the filter holder on opposite sides, squeezing hard to get a grip on it! That will only distort the ring and make it bind up. Then the retaining ring won't budge. Lay it flat on the table and gently press it down on the table. Then use a pointed tool to rotate the retaining ring counter-clockwise. ALTERNATE between the two holes--don't try to do it all from one side. A nudge on this one, another nudge on that one--then back again. It will yield. Don't slip!
