Digital Lens for non Digital Cameras

I have been doing weddings using Non Digital Nikon cameras and usually carry

the following lens with me, (Nikon 24mm f2.8,)(Nikon 28nn f2.8)

(Tamron 28-75 F2.8) AND (Nikon 70-200 f2.8) In order to carry less lens,I would

like to buy a zoom lens such as the Tamron 17-50 f2,8,however this lens is

designed for use with Digital Cameras. The question is can this lens be used

with a non Digital Nikon camera. If not what would be the reason and problem?

To Peter N:

Just to get your thinking straight:

So called `digital lenses` are NOT `digital` lenses.

They are (usually) lenses to be used exclusively on APS-C FORMAT (digital) cameras.

It is not the fact that they are `digital cameras` which makes the lenses compatiable.

It is the fact the camera is an APS-C FORMAT which is firstly relevant, and secondly that the body accepts the lens`s LENS MOUNT.

This is a very important distinction from suggesting these `digital lenses` fit ALL DIGITAL SLR CAMERAS: they do NOT.

In addition, Nikon digital cameras control the aperture internally and don't have an aperture ring. Your camera body probably doesn't have the same aperture control and wouldn't work with that lens. I BELIEVE the only film body that can accept digital lenses is the F5.

I have one Digital SLR, the Fuji S 2. I bought a Tamron SP AF XR Di 28mm-75mm 2.8 zoom for it.

This lens works fine on my old Nikon 8008s and on my F3HP.

This kit was purchased in the winter of 2005 new (fuji S2 and Tamron Lens).

I also use manual lenses on the S2 but that is a whole 'nother discussion. If I buy a used S3 in the future or even an S5, I expect the lenses I have will work. Maybe the camera features won't (like AF and AE.. maybe auto metering) but I shoot manual a lot anyhow.
