difference between 501c and 501cm

The 501CM has the GMS (Gliding Mirror System)so there is no viewfinder obstruction with long lenses or when using extension tubes or teleconverters. There are probably some other minor mechanical and cosmetic differences of more interest to afficionados than photographers...such as the Acute-Matte "D" (CM) vs original Acute-Matte screen ©.

The Hasselblad 501C/M is a heavily revised camera against earlier models. The mirror mechanics are completely new, that is in fact half of the body because it mainly does operate the mirror, transport the film, cock and trigger the shutter(s). The 501c was available only in black and came with a unique C 2.8/80 Planar (CF look) which was optically identical with the current CFi 2.8/80 Planar.

If you look after a late 500C/M, the 501c is a good alternative, but If you have the money, go for the 501C/M! The GMS is worth it and bodies themself (even new) are cheap. Regards
