Dented Filter Ring Repair?

Recommended Posts

I've got two manual focus Nikkors with dented <strike>focus</strike> filter rings, both 52mm size. Otherwise, the lenses are fine.

Is there any way to fix the dents so that filters can mount easily? I don't want to spend Nikon Service kind of repair dollars, as these lenses simply aren't that valuable.

Ideas?

Well, you could try a "lens vise". It sort of works but it takes a little knack in not over doing it.
see http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=000sIm - especially Oleson's comment.

There are lots on eBay (search "lens vise") [ca 50US$ with shipping].

I got mine from Romney at the end of that source for tools, repair instructions, etc.

00cCii-543916084.jpg.a40da40b0089657cf9afd2e008a3c173.jpg
