Rick Helmke
Evening all,

Our local camera shop (yes we still have a very good one here) is hosting a portrait workshop by David Maynard. I've not heard much about him and wonder if it is worthwhile. Portrait lighting, studio lighting generally, is where I am weakest and I could no doubt learn a lot. Is anyone familiar with this photographer, ever been to one of his workshops? It's $90 for an evening session which doesn't seem outrageous if there is good info presented. If it is another basic lighting cookie cutter event I'm not sure I'm interested. Anyone here know anything about him? Thanks.

Rick H.

bob_h
After looking at the faces section of his website gallery, if his portrait workshop was being held near me, I would take a pass.
studio460
I would take his swimsuit workshop if his models were also provided!
studio460
Seriously, if you're an absolute beginner in regards to studio lighting techniques, I would think it's worth the $90. From what I can see on his site, he's a competent studio and location photographer, and I'm sure you would gain at least $90 in instruction.
