Ben Kleschinsky
I just acquired a dark slide to go with my Bronica S2a, I needed to remove my broken back as the spring that advances the film and mirror is stuck. I tried pushing the dark slide in the entire way and the top part of the back just barely starts to seem to want to pop off. I tried holding down the lens release at the same time, no dice. The slide is not deformed, has anyone else experienced this issue?
polka
With the Bronica S2 (or S2a) you can only remove the back from the body by inserting "its own slide", this fact is well known. But what is not so well known is that there are two kinds of slides, which have to be matched with two different kinds of backs. The proof of this fact is here :
http://www.dirapon.be/images/collection/Bronica/volets_Bronica_S2.pdf
on a very interesting page about the Bronica S2 and S2a :
http://www.dirapon.be/bronica.htm
Maybe you did not buy a slide matched with your back.
Too bad that you lost the original slide going with your back.
Paul

Bill C
Hi, it's not been directly mentioned, but the way to release the back is to press in on the dark slide, near the top. This operates the release. Try using your right hand to grasp the upper part of the back, with your thumb on the dark slide. Squeeze firmly until you feel the dark slide move in a bit, perhaps 1/8 inch. While continuing to squeeze, pull the top of the magazine away from the camera. Hopefully this is all that is needed. rick_jack1
If you press in the small indented button on the back of the back it will release it and it will pop out. If you have film loaded remove the insert first in a darkroom.
Ben Kleschinsky
Hello to all, yeah I need to change my email address to one I still have access to. Finally managed to get the back off after really jamming it in there, a lot of strength almost breaking the back but it decided to snap off. The slide I was trying to use on my S2a is the top one in this picture you linked above. http://www.dirapon.be/images/collection/Bronica/volets_Bronica_S2.pdfr
