sven keil
Hi, I just made a few snapshots to give you an idea of the noise performance of the D700 (http://www.photo.net/photos/Sven%20Keil photos until the red car; ISO number in image caption). Of course, images are downsized, what implies that noise is averaged out to some degree. Shooting was in 14 bit raw, conversion to TIFF, adjusting white balance (originally auto) and/or D-lighting (what may lead to "amplification" of noise in dark regions). So far, the noise looks quite pleasing to me, and shooting in monochrome with high noise levels gives a nice TMAX3200 feeling. Although I really like the cam, I found two minor drawbacks: (1) TIFFs only in 8 bit, what makes this option essentially useless for me, and the rubber cap for covering the connectors seems really "cheap". Best, Sven
ronald_moravec1
Nice view of night life. Indeed good for high ISO work TIFF can be changed to 16 in photoshop. This may or may not be a handicap depending on where you convert to TIFF for raw.
sven keil
Forgot to mention that all camera-internal noise reduction was switched off! The point I wanted to make with the TIFFs was that I do not get the full dynamic range of 14 bits...changing it afterwards to 16 bits is of course possible, but the 6 bits are lost anyway. jose_angel
The conectors door cap issue looks to be the response to the really too tight conector door on the D300. Now, on the D700, it is too loose.
