rolleiflex users
Hello, Im a new owner of Nikon D70 camera and I have a question: When I shoot horizontaly the back screen (LCD) shows image as full frame but when I turn camera verticaly the image in the LCD screen shows 2 black frames (left and right) with the image in the center. I dont understand if this is correct or if I can change something in the camera (menu) to show a full frame image when I shoot with my camera in verticaly position. Sorry for the silly question but im still learning! Thank you for any advice Rgds from Brazil Antonio
dennisprice
Change the "rotate tall" setting in the playback menu:<div></div>

dennisprice
Don is right. Page 168 describes Image Rotation, which interacts with how you set Rotate Tall (page 126). Antonio, you need to check both settings. I think you want Rotate Tall "off" and Image Rotation "on" to get the result you desire.
frank_skomial
What you see is correct. You camera rotates vertical pictures, taken when camera was in vertical position, to the same vertical position when you display on LCD when camera is held horizontaly. If you remove auto rotattion of the pictures for LCD display, then you will need to view your picture on camera in the same camera position as when the picture was taken. That is, you will hold camera horizontally to see horizontally taken pictures, and you will need to rotate your camera to vertical position to see pictures taken vertically. Of course instead of rotating your camera, you can rotate your head. As usual...there is also more to it, as some software take advantage of rotational information and automatically rotate pictures when viewed on a computer, while some other photo viewer software do not do that, and you may need to rotate pictures on your computer yourself, before preparing a slide presentation. steakandale
I prefer to have my D50 auto-rotate. You can use the back up and down arrows to scroll up and down to see the rest, I just dont ever want image preview sideways... but that's me. I'm guessing it's like that on the D70 too.
