D500 at times will not release shutter

Hi Folks. Let me start by saying this. First, I am not certain I fixed my problem, though I am about 95% certain I have. Often times when I would use the Sigma 30F/1.4 ART lens and the camera set focus, it would not release the shutter. Changing settings from release / focus etc to simply fire off, would not fix the problem. After much searching google and this site, I found a very few articles with my exact same problem. The consensus was that it had to do with the XQD card. The Sony cards in particular. So I went out and purchased new Lexar pro cards and that seems to have solved my problem. My D500 never once gave me an error message. I even sent the Camera to Nikon and they said it was perfect. Of the many many lenses I have the problem seemed to occur most often with the Sigma. I looked for firmware upgrades, but there are none.

Has this happened to any one else here? I read that many folks with the D800E and end even Some D700 owners had the same problem. In those cases it was the compact flash cards. I also own a D800E and have had no such problem.

I have not heard of this problem. Nor have I experienced it with my D500. And I use Sony XQD cards.
I have had one problem with my D500 when everything locked up. I turned it off (I think), removed the battery and then installed the battery again and the problem was solved.
Just make sure you are using the correct EN-EL15 batteries in the D500. Send back the incorrect ones and Nikon will send you replacement batteries. More info here:

My D500 has been trouble-free since I got it in May 2016. In one occasion it locked up such that I needed to remove the battery to reset it. I used a mixed Sony and Lexar XQD cards in 32G, 64G, and 128G. They all work just fine.

I don't have the Sigma 30mm/f1.4 Art (DX) lens, though, although I have the 35mm Art, which I rarely use on the D500.
