Rob Davies
Well, after much thought and soul-searching I finally succumbed. It arrived with the 24-70 on Thursday and so far I have been overawed with just about everything the camera does... in fact my expectations have been exceeded in many respects. Sadly, due to the 'lovely' weather we are having in the UK at the moment, I haven't really had a chance to test it at normal iso settings. I am aware everyone is waxing lyrical about the high iso settings and I must concur, it has been set at 3200 almost permanently. Not sure about the AWB, further experimentation will be needed.<div></div>

marcus_andrewes
I've had mine a week and been equally impressed - our weather is better, but the subject somewhat less attractive!! Stick the SB 800 on it and be further amazed!

alastair_anderson
Marcus, If you can comfortably shoot at ISO 3200 why would you need a flash?

marcus_andrewes
Well, flash helps with fill lighting and/or creative effect. Also, there IS more noise at 3200 than 200, no matter how good it is. The D3 seems extremely good at controlling the SB800 - certainly images with the flash on are a marked improvement on either a D200 or D2. IMHO
alastair_anderson
Yes, Marcus. My comment was somewhat facetious. Very glad to have the camera, but can barely afford lenses. I'm not quite ready to cash in all my Leica lenses for Nikkor ones. At the moment I have a Sunpak and a Nikon SB15. The SB800 is way down the list. For me first up will be an 80-200mm (or 70-200mm, but I need an aperture ring for my Nikon F!).
marcus_andrewes
I happily cashed mine in and don't regret it; the D3 and the 24-70 are much more use to me than my M7: I figure I will just buy another M one day when I have more money. That 24-70 2.8 is truly excellent - although it is certainly a bit of a beast to lug about. Feels like it is hewn from rock!
