v._s.
Hi everyone. My D200 just stopped autofocusing! It give me a "R11" or "R25" reading when the shutter is half way pressed. Any way to correct this? Or how do you reset the camera to the factory settings? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
aaron l
R11/R25 indicates how many shots the buffer can hold and has nothing to do with autofocus. What lens do you have on? Did you shut off AF on the lens? Did you hit the AF-S/C/M switch on the body?
v._s.
I checked that an the switch is on C NOT "M". I'm using Nikkor lenses, right now I have a 85mm 1.4 lens on it.
ShunCheung
On the D200, you can set an option to initiate AF only from the AF-ON button, which is next to the main command dial on the back of the camera. In that case the shutter release button will not initiate AF. I have run into that situation using a friend's D200, which I don't have myself. briany
The lens also has to be set to M/A rather than M. Additionally, if you adjust (override) the focus by hand while using an af-s lens, you have to release and re-press the AF-on/shutter button before the lens will focus again. tom_halfhill
It might also be a camera failure. My D70 autofocus failed in March. At first it was intermittent, then got worse. Unfortunately, the camera was out of warranty by then. Nikon USA worked on my D70 for six weeks and claimed to fix it. Charged me $268. Two days later, autofocus failed again. Back to Nikon USA. It's been three weeks already and not a word. When this problem happens, watch for two symptoms: 1. The camera can't lock focus on anything. The lens racks all the way from closest focus to infinity. 2. The camera's autofocus-assist light comes on, even in bright sunlight. Apparently, the camera thinks it's too dark to focus.
