MTC Photography
Exakta mount CZJ Pancolar 50/2 is an interesting lens. Unlike other Exakta mount lenses (such as Biotar 58/2. Kilfit Macro 40/3.5 etc), when you rotate the aperture control dial, the aperture does not change at all. At first you think the aperture mechanism is defective, untill you press the Exakta style shutter release button, the aperture then suddenly contracts to your preset value. This is quite common in modern cameras, the shutter contraction is control by the camera, not by the lens. Pancolar aperture contraction to preset value is thru the lens, by depressing half way the shutter release of the lens, even though the lens is not mounted, the aperture will contract to preset value. What happen when mounted on Exakta / Exa ?. press shutter release half way, aperture contracts to preset value, continue press the shutter release, then triggers the shutter. MTC Photography
I cannot remember any other lens with aperture instant contraction split second before shutter firing , controlled by the lens alone, not by camera
rick_drawbridge
Mirandas of that era used the same PAD system, but on the other side where, I must admit, I find it easier to operate.

Exakta/Miranda

MTC Photography
The CZJ Flektogon 20/4 has the same on lens aperture contraction mechanism. Strangely, this mechanism does not work every time The Flektogon 20/4 works on Ihagee Exacta Exa. But does not work on Exakta Varex IIa. the aperture always wide open during shutter firing, Its seems to me that this on lens aperture contraction mechanism requires high tolerance, hence it may work on one Exakta but not on the other That probably was the reason camera designers moved the aperture contraction mechanism away from the lens and moved to camera body
