hugh_croft
If I open a pic via bridge to CS5 on this 64 bit computer, CS opens as 64 bit. If I open CS by itself with bridge closed, it, CS, opens as 32 bit. Is this meant to be?
john_a5
I use a Mac and it doesn't matter how I open a file. The only thing that I noticed was that certain features would shut down if I opened too many files and overloaded the cache--mostly just the openGL functions.
Wouter Willemse
Hugh,
Check whether the shortcut for PS CS5 points to the 32-bits version or 64-bits one (they should be 2 different executable files). To do so, right-click the shortcut and select properties. There you can see which executable gets launched via that shortcut.
bgelfand
I am running an a Windows 7 x64 system. When I installed PS CS5 two shortcuts were placed on my desk top - one for the 32-bit version and one for the 64-bit version. The icons look the same and the names are truncated so the look the same. If I single click the shortcut, the full name appears - "Adobe Photoshop x86" for the the 32-bit version and "Adobe Photoshop CS5 (64 bit)" for the 64-bit version.
hugh_croft
The icon I planted on the tray is 32 bit and yes, I now see there is a separate 64 bit one in the start menu.
Why would I want access to both on a 64 bit machine? Thanks for all your repsonses.

bgelfand

Why would I want access to both on a 64 bit machine?

For me, because the TWAIN interface to NikonScan, for my Coolscan V, works only with 32-bit Photoshop. My films works flow is scan directly into Photoshop, save as a PSD file, then edit the PSD file, save the edit as a second PSD file, finally convert that PSD to final output - usually a JPEG file. I do all my scans first, then edit.
