CoolScan 4000 Vista 64 driver

  1. I have a CoolScan 4000 and have not been able to install the driver for it. I have tried the most recent version of NikonScan (version 4.03) and even that won't work. Does Nikon not support 64-bit versions of Vista?

  2. Corey,
Unfortunately, Nikon's Japanese website clearly states that NikonScan 4.03 only supports 32 bit versions of Vista family.
There might be some trick to use it in the 64 bit environment, but I'm afraid I'm not knowlegable enough to offer any suggestion.

  3. If this is the case, is there another scanning program that will work? Possibly Silverfast?

  4. Is Silverfast generic scanning software? If so, you'd better refer to the developer's website for the required environment.

  5. It is. they make their software to run pretty much anything from a $99 Epson to an Imacon.

  6. I've found the website and it says Silverfast supports Super Coolscan 4000 ED (again) only on 32 bit Vista:

  7. D'oh... Plan B: This is more of a computer-nerd question. Can I run an XP emulator within Vista? Or a 32-bit Vista within 64-bit? Kind of complex, but aside from a second computer on 32-bit Windows (which I have but this is my last resort) it's all I can think of.

  8. I use VueScan, which supports the CoolScan 4000. This software is maintained constantly. I highly recommend it.
The VueScan Website can be found here: http://www.hamrick.com/.

  9. I second the suggstion of VueScan - I use it with a Nikon 8000, with no problem!
