Continuously variable shutter speed

In short, what does that term mean exactly? I read that an SL2 has a continously variable shutter speed, and if it does, then I have been using it without realising what it is. Duh... So please someone explain this a little, as contrast to non-continuosly variable shutter. Thanks, and happy shooting.

Its like an M5 - you can set intermediate speeds anywhere inbetween

two marked speeds.

...exept inbetween 1/8 and 1/15.

You can set the shutter of an M6 between marked shutter speeds, and

you will get in-between, but unpredictable shutter speeds. This does

not work between two particular sets of shutter speeds. One set is

the range from 1/8 to 1/15 as pointed out above. Duh, I can't recall

what the other pair of speeds is...

The answer, happily, is somewhere in the archives. Just seek and ye

shall find :-)

With a Leicaflex the shutter speeds that will not be accurate are

between 1/4 and 1/8 sec, and between 1/30 and 1/60 sec.
